The venue for our chamber concerts is St Francis of Assisi Church, the parish church in central Welwyn Garden City. Built from red brick and opened in 1934 it is 10 minutes’ walk from the station and is very close to the shopping area with a good Sainsburys and plenty of restaurants.
Parking is mostly in the surrounding streets - and is free after 6.30pm, but there is also a small car park in front of the church for people needing close access when arriving. There are no steps to negotiate into the church.
The church is proving an excellent place for our chamber concerts, with suitable and bright concert lighting, good heating, well cushioned pews and also some individual chairs. There are spaces for wheel chairs, and for interval refreshments the hall is adjacent within the building. Sight lines are good and above all, the acoustic is excellent. There is a grand piano available as well as the organ.
St Francis Church is proud to have a long standing choral tradition and music plays a large part in the church's worship, the acoustic being most beneficial to the two choirs.
We look forward to welcoming you into our church concert hall.
